Back to School Update from the Superintendent
8/26/2022

Dear Parents/Guardians,

This week, our staff returned to their schools and we have been preparing our classrooms for the return of our students next week.  Administrators, staff, and teachers are excited to welcome students back on Tuesday, August 30, 2022.

Please review the important reminders listed below:

Transportation
  • M&J Bus Company has published bus lists for students.  Each year, we make slight adjustments to bus routes to ensure that students throughout Clinton are accommodated and to minimize the length of bus rides whenever possible.  Please remember to be at the bus stop early and we appreciate your understanding as we work through the first few weeks of school to get our runs correct and the timing for stops normalized.  Our website contains contact information and bus lists which can be accessed here.
  • Pick-up and Drop-off procedures have been established by each school.  During the first few weeks of school, it may take a little longer to drop off/pick up, so please give yourself extra time until the procedures become more streamlined.
Health Protocols
  • The Clinton Public Schools will follow the CDC and CT DPH guidance for schools.  This information is outlined in the document, Launching Into Healthy Learning-Operational Strategies and Respiratory Disease Prevention Strategies for School, Child Care, and Camps.
  • Positive COVID cases will be monitored and we will publish a weekly COVID-19 dashboard that will indicate all positive cases by school location on our websiteAdditional notifications from the school regarding positive cases will only occur if advised by our local health district due to an unusual pattern of cases within our schools or other circumstances that would require information to be shared directly with parents.
  • School Nurse Supervisor Donna Frechette [email protected] is the point of contact for questions related to COVID-19 protocols. Each school’s health office staff will communicate and coordinate with parents to support the health of students.  CPS will operate under the Test-Mask-Go strategy as outlined in the guidance.  At-Home Test Kits for COVID-19 will be available for families upon request and will be utilized to support the safe return of students and staff to classrooms if they are experiencing any respiratory symptoms.
  • Physical and Immunizations:  Parents of students entering 7th grade and 11th grade this school year are required under Connecticut State Statute to submit updated physicals and immunizations dated from 1/1/21 to present in order to begin school on 8/30/22.  If you have not submitted these physicals to date please email them to [email protected] and they will be updated at your child's respective school.
Weekly Blasts, Flyers, and District Calendar
  • Each school will continue to communicate on Fridays through the Weekly Blast which is sent out through our district notification system School Messenger.  Please take a few minutes each week to review the information about our schools and any important messaging that we need to share.  Flyers with important information about local park and recreation sports and activities, special events, and other school-based groups will also be sent with the Weekly Blast on Fridays. Also, please review the District Calendar for important dates including school open houses, parent-teacher conferences, and early dismissal days.

We are looking forward to an outstanding school year full of the traditions, treasured events, and fun experiences that are part of the learning journey in the Clinton Public Schools.  If you have additional questions related to the opening of school, please contact your child’s school office or building principal for assistance.

Sincerely,
