Dear Families,
PACK Expectations: Our Joel students have been working hard to learn the PACK
expectations. Today we had a PACK assembly to celebrate our community and all we
have learned this week.
Here at Joel School, we have a Volume Meter for our voices:

Students learned this week what the expectations are in the many areas of our school:
When transitioning in the halls, we use a zero voice level to respect the learning spaces. When we are on the bus line or the parent line at the end of the day, we use a zero so we can hear when buses arrive or when our family arrives. At recess, we can be at level 2 while we play with our friends Inside the bus, we can be at level 1 and chat with a friend sitting next to you or just across the aisle. In the Husky Cafe, we can use a level 1 and talk with our friends. When teachers arrive, we go to a level zero to transition to the learning areas.
Parents, please reinforce these expectations with your child and review the PACK Matrix with additional language that defines the expected behaviors at Joel School.

MAPS Testing: Grades 3 and 4 will be taking the NWEA MAP test next week. This is an untimed computer test used to assess your child's academic progress in reading, and math.
How it works: It adapts to your child. If they get a question right, the next one gets harder. If they get it wrong, the next one gets easier. The goal: It does not give a pass or fail grade. Instead, it finds your child's exact learning level so teachers know where they are thriving and where they need extra help. When it happens: Our students in grades 3 and 4 take this assessment 3 times a year (fall, winter, spring) to measure how much they grow over time. Think of it like marking your child's height on a wall, but for learning.
