5th Grade:
ELA - Many students have finished their first novel, Esperanza Rising, while others are very near the end! Many students have really enjoyed the book and many are interested in reading another book by the same author; Becoming Naomi Leon.
Math - Students reviewed their toolkit of multiplication strategies to help determine cost with Callie’s Cake Pops. Using ratio tables, double and half, and partial products to name a few, they were able to determine cost and profit with multiplication including decimals.
6th Grade:
Science - Students are learning about genetics and using Punnett squares to determine the probabilities of what traits can be passed on to offspring through a mating event.
Math - Students are finishing up Unit 1 about Area of Polygons and Surface Area. Logo Design Projects were due last week. Our next Unit will focus on Ratios.
7th Grade:
Science - Students are exploring the periodic table and discovering the unique properties of elements. Soon, they’ll put their creativity to work by transforming a researched element into a superhero inspired by its characteristics and abilities!
Math - Students in regular math class completed Unit 2 this week and are moving on to a short unit exploring circles!
SS - Students have begun learning about Egypt. This week will look further at the Nile River and do a comparison with the CT River to learn about a local water source.
English - This week in English, students will continue learning about The Lost Boys of Sudan and reading A Long Walk to Water. We will focus on identifying theme and understanding the messages authors convey through characters and events. Students will also practice writing clear, concise summaries that capture the most important information without including unnecessary details.
8th Grade:
Math - Students should check PowerSchool. There was an imbalance of weighted categories that needed to be fixed which might have had an impact on students’ overall grade.
Math students are finishing up their geometry unit on transformations of figures on the coordinate plane. We are looking at one more quiz before the quarter closes and maybe the unit test in time for Q1 grades.
Algebra students are continuing on with our longest unit of linear equations. We are currently working on solving systems of equations and will finish up with linear inequalities. It is time to reflect on their performance so far and adjust work habits and study strategies where needed to have a successful year.
Student Government:
