Dear Families,
It’s hard to believe that we are approaching the middle of September! The weather has been beautiful, and our Joel students are coming to school ready to learn!
Important Parent Morning Drop-Off Reminders:
Parents should not get out of the car in the parent drop-off car loop. There are staff present to help your child out. If you would prefer to help your child out, please park in the bottom parking lot and walk your child up. In the parent drop-off car loop, children should exit the car from the passenger side. This is for the safety of cars passing at the same time. For staff safety, please have all dogs secured or have your child get out on their own when dropping off in the car loop. Please remember to pull all the way up to the staff member with the red flag at the end of the basketball court. This allows us to unload cars efficiently.

Toys at School: Please remind your children to keep personal toys at home to avoid lost, broken, or distracting items at school. Our classrooms have many engaging, interactive items for students to use!
If your child uses a fidget tool as a planned accommodation, please ensure it is quiet, non-disruptive, and school-appropriate.

SEL: Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is very important for the development and growth of Joel learners. Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is a priority at Joel this year, and every year. At Joel, we utilize the Second Step and Zones of Regulation curricula across all grade levels. Students have designated blocks of time for SEL each week!
Third- and fourth-grade students worked hard this week on the MAPS Assessment. This assessment has both a reading and math test. Students learn to show what they know, use scrap paper, utilize some computer tools, and persevere through some challenging questions. This gives teachers valuable information on how best to support students' curriculum, learning, and brain growth.
Special Services: A reminder for families of students with an IEP or 504 plan: the Parent Portal through CTSEDS lets you view all of your child's documents.
