5th Grade:
Math - This week fifth graders finished off MAP testing with math, showing off the concepts they remember from 4th grade. In class they continue to practice multiplication skills by playing the Multiple Game which requires them to list all the factors of a given number. Keep quizzing your child at home to help encourage that multiplication fact fluency!
Science - Students have begun to model how the Earth's rotation is the reason the sun appears to move across the sky.
ELA - Students are still reading Esperanza Rising and using it to drive their learning to summarize, quote the text accurately, and use affixes to build vocabulary.

Science - There will be a quiz on Wednesday, 9/23 on Bees and Flowers. Students should have completed a study guide in Google Classroom in preparation for this quiz.
Language Arts - Sixth graders are exploring the world of Greek mythology as we continue reading The Lightning Thief. Throughout this unit, students will be sharpening their core literacy skills by analyzing plot development, tracking character perspectives, and using text evidence to strengthen claims. We are also focusing on identifying main ideas and supporting details while uncovering the rich figurative language woven into Percy Jackson's adventures. Ask your child about the gods, monsters, or heroes they've met so far to keep the learning going at home!
Math - We are focusing on Unit 1 - finding areas of parallelograms and triangles. This unit includes a Logo Design and surface area to incorporate the area of polygons.
7th Grade: CAMP HAZEN: Form was due on 9/16. If you have not turned in forms/$, please get that all in ASAP. Field trip is 9/22.
Science - Students are completing work with atoms and beginning to explore molecules and chemical bonding.
Social Studies - We are learning about the development of civilizations and continuing to discuss the theme of what is technology?
English - Students will continue to work on finding the main idea, also known as “The Gist," with fiction and non-fiction texts. Students will also continue reading A Long Walk to Water.
Math - We are continuing our work with scale drawings! Test for the regular classes will be next Wednesday 9/23.
Spanish - This week we took our first vocab quiz so be on the lookout for scores! Some students studied the poem “Versos Sencillos” by Jose Marti and listened to Guantanamera, the song based on it. Now we’re onto grammar.
8th Grade:
Students recently completed MAP testing in reading and math. If your student felt the test was challenging, that’s okay! MAP is designed to adapt to each student and includes questions that both build confidence and stretch their thinking. Since we are just getting started with the school year, students have only covered a small portion of the curriculum. Over the next few weeks, we’ll meet with students to review their results, set goals, and identify ways to continue growing. In the meantime, check in with your student and ask how they felt about the experience!
Chorus:
Our chorus students are off to a fantastic start! We are building strong singing skills while learning exciting new music and preparing for a wonderful year of performances.
A reminder to families: Concert participation is an important part of being a chorus member. Students have worked hard in rehearsal, and performing is an essential part of that experience. Please make concert attendance a priority and mark these dates on your calendar now!
